Who We Are

ISHTAR is a community-based organization registered in 1999 that advances sexual health rights of men that have sex with men and male sex workers to reduce the stigma and discrimination aligned with them by creating awareness with the aim of advocating for their rights to access health care, including STI/HIV and AIDS related care and treatment. Ishtar-MSM is a member group of The Gay & Lesbian Coalition of Kenya (GALCK).

The program has one drop-in center located in Nairobi that provides HIV/STI services to the key Populations that include male sex workers and Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) and Transgender Communities. Under the Global Fund HIV Grant – ISHTAR has a target of 8765 MSM and Transgender in Nairobi County.

Founded in 1997, Ishtar began as a self-help group dedicated to supporting and protecting the health rights of sexual gender minorities in Kenya. Over the years, Ishtar has evolved into a leading community-based organization advocating for inclusive healthcare, social justice, and legal empowerment for LGBTQ+ individuals.
